Given that you mention you're using a 77mm size makes it known that you're using high quality glass and a $20-$30 UV is like putting a parachute on the back of an Indy car. You've got the glass, a higher quality UV filter should help. The guys/gals over at Norman's could recommend a good one but at 77mm, I would go there ready I spend upwards of $100.Josh & Kara Haashttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15620559161298788408noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2744300177774222529.post-19473250510852137802012-03-12T04:18:29.171-07:002012-03-12T04:18:29.171-07:00Brilliant post, Caleb!Brilliant post, Caleb!Jerry Jourdanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16685987073684961223noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2744300177774222529.post-88856390522505051032012-03-02T21:03:59.993-08:002012-03-02T21:03:59.993-08:00Same issues here and the same filter. Consider positioning your subject somewhere other than in the center of the frame to give the photos more of a feel or emotion about what the bird is doing. The rule of thirds is useful, but sometimes the coolest shots don't follow the rules, try different compositions until it feels interesting! I have a shot of a Cassowary that is one of my favorites, and the bird is mostly in the left half of the photo, giving the impression of it slowly sneaking through the rainforest... Yes, I think I would take off the teleconverter in a situation like that, and if I'm correct you do need to use a smaller aperture (higher f-number) if you want a greater DOF, which would require a slower shutter speed.
