And for kicks here are the 2 least terrible shots of the Red-necked Grebe, taken seconds before we discovered the Barrow's. Also this bird was seen again this morning around 9:15AM at the south parking lot at Riverside by Randy Vandermolen.

Thank you so much for letting me look through your scope and pointing this life bird to me! I've followed your blog relatively and was honored to meet you.
One other note re. this bird; I had some really good looks from the north-west corner of the Leonard bridge, and enjoyed free parking at the Family Dollar on the north side. Also fyi, for reference Canal Park iis directly across from the Boardwalk Condos, which is 940 Monroe. Thanks again! And blessings be with you!

All the information you provided really helped, I got some great looks at both the Barrow's Goldeneye and the Red-necked Grebe! I also managed some poor quality pictures of the Red-necked Grebe (maybe a little better than the ones you posted) by digiscoping with my iPod!

Good to have you back blogging: kind of at an impasse myself with regard to my own blog, can never seem to find my 'voice' on there. Maybe I should revive it, but only if I feel I can use it to entertain and/or inform...
Any better pics of the Red-necked Grebe? I know your birds are a different race to ours in Europe, and the vagrancy potential is real. Smashing male Barrow's, by the way, brings back happy memories of the sole Irish record in 2005.
